Galatians 2:19-21 (CEB)

19 I died to the Law through the Law, so that I could live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. And the life that I now live in my body, I live by faith, indeed, by the faithfulness of God’s Son, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I don’t ignore the grace of God, because if we become righteous through the Law, then Christ died for no purpose.

Reflection

It’s impossible to be arrogant in the shadow of the cross.

At least, it’s impossible to honestly consider the meaning of the cross and maintain the illusion of your own holiness or worthiness. That’s the whole point. The Christian faith is about the grace of God – a gift that we didn’t deserve or earn. Life, love, forgiveness, courage, wonder, tenderness – it’s all grace. It’s all gift.

We spoke about Paul in last Sunday’s message. While some people complain about Paul’s arrogance, here he reveals what goes through his mind when he ponders the meaning of Christ’s sacrifice. “It’s no longer me anymore,” he says. “It’s him. It was always him.”

For Pondering & Prayer

Wonder at God’s graciousness leads us toward humility. When have you most keenly felt the wonder of the cross?

Sometimes, the most effective path to sharing our faith is by sharing our wonder. Pray that today you might find an opportunity to share about the grace of God as you’ve experienced it in your life.
