Fri Jan 30-Strength Used for Good

Jeremiah 22:3 (CEB)

The Lord proclaims: Do what is just and right; rescue the oppressed from the power of the oppressor. Don’t exploit or mistreat the refugee, the orphan, and the widow. Don’t spill the blood of the innocent in this place.

Reflection

The Lord’s proclamation through the prophet Jeremiah is clear and unmistakable. God speaks plainly: Do what is just and right. Protect the vulnerable. Refuse to participate in harm. There is no hidden meaning here and no room for confusion—God’s expectations are straightforward.

God calls us to use whatever influence, authority, or strength we have to defend those who are easily overlooked or mistreated. Faithfulness, then, is not measured only by what we say we believe, but by how we live it out—especially in how we treat those who are most at risk.

Whenever a person or a group holds authority, power, or strength, they cannot use it to dominate or destroy. However, God calls them to use it to protect, preserve, and promote peace. When power is guided by compassion, restraint, and humility, it can become a source of stability and hope, rather than fear and harm.

So let us here this message plainly and do what is just and right. Let us seek peace in our words and actions. Let us stand up for the vulnerable wherever God has placed us. In these ordinary, faithful acts, we reflect the heart of the God.

For Pondering and Prayer

  • Where has God entrusted me with influence or authority—at home, at work, at church, or in my community?
  • Who are the vulnerable people God may be placing in my path right now, and how might I be called to stand up for them?
  • What is one practical step I can take this week to pursue justice, peace, or compassion in my everyday life?

Prayer: God of all power and strength, give us the courage to do what is just and right. Help us stand up for those who need our help and use whatever influence we have for good. May our desire for peace and justice be something we not only speak about but faithfully live out. We pray this in the strong and gracious name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
