John 15:9-12 (CEB)

“As the Father loved me, I too have loved you. Remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. 11 I have said these things to you so that my joy will be in you and your joy will be complete. 12 This is my commandment: love each other just as I have loved you.

Reflection

I think if Jesus were here today he would use examples from our everyday experiences. He would tell us stories about technology, maybe using the relationship of computers and power sources, or cables and WiFi. Today’s scripture made me think about the importance of remaining connected.

All of us who use computers know the frustration of losing connection. We need to remain connected so we can get the work done. Sometimes we need to reboot the computer, so we call for help and the tech asks, “Is your computer plugged in?” This question usually annoys us, but it’s fundamental. If we aren’t plugged into the power, we won’t remain connected.

Jesus always remained connected to God. He remained connected to God by a deep love and constant faith in God’s plan for him and the world. He followed the commandment to love God, and love others, all the way to the cross. He set us an example to follow. Jesus loved us so much that he sacrificed himself for our salvation. We can feel the incredible love that God has for us because we remain connected to God’s love and grace through him.

For Pondering & Prayer

Are you plugged in to God, the holy, redeeming source of power? Do you remain connected to the love of Jesus? Every moment is an opportunity to remain in Christ’s love and let the power of that redeeming love influence our every word, thought and action.

Prayer: Holy God of transforming power, we love you and we want to follow the example of Jesus, but we often fail. Give us the power of your Spirit to remain connected to the love of Jesus and to follow his loving example every day. Amen.
