18 On that day: The deaf will hear the words of a scroll and, freed from dimness and darkness, the eyes of the blind will see.
19 The poor will again find joy in the Lord,
and the neediest of people will rejoice in the holy one of Israel.
20 The tyrant will be no more,
the mocker will perish,
and all who plot evil will be eliminated:
Reflection
As I tried to find meaning in this scripture, I found myself asking, when did God plan that Isaiah 29:18-20 would come to fruition?
Thinking about who God is it seems like God would want us to know that this scripture will come to life for us in God’s own time. Jesus’ first coming can be seen as a historical example using miracles and teaching. He brought light and understanding to those sho were spiritually blind and deaf.
At Jesus’ second coming all barriers, which prevent receiving God’s Word, will be wiped away. Those who lack pride, are patient and gentle in spirit, will rejoice fully. Scoffers and those who do evil will be judged. The land itself will be transformed.
One study search clarifies, for me, and I hope for you also, the meaning of the scripture by saying this:
Isaiah wrote this prophecy around 700 years before the time of Jesus’s birth (between 739–681 BC). The gap between the writing of the prophecy and its fulfillment highlights that God sets the timetable, not humans. The delay assesses the faith of those who wait, but the promise is that “it will surely come; it will not delay” when the appointed time arrives in God’s sovereign plan.

For Pondering and Prayer
It seems universal for every human being to experience stress in their life. But how do we use God’s word to live our best lives every day?
Our scripture, combined with looking back at our lives, offers us memories of wonderful times and experiences that warm our hearts and are truly pleasant memories. Feeling and being thankful can give us strength to move forward and give us a desire to find the next good thing to be grateful for.
Prayer: Lord, help us to ponder your Word and not move on too quickly. Help us to question and rest on our questions knowing that if we do that, we will hear and see you more clearly. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
