5 But anyone who needs wisdom should ask God, whose very nature is to give to everyone without a second thought, without keeping score. Wisdom will certainly be given to those who ask.
Reflection
Sometimes it can be easy to get stuck on the times when we ask God for something that we don’t see given to us, at least not in the way or in the time frame we want. But here, scripture tells us that God’s, “very nature is to give.” Long before any of us were born, God was already gifting to us. God gifted us creation and life, grace and forgiveness, uniqueness and free-will. We have been born into an abundance of God’s gift of love.
But then we are born, and we grow, and we learn, and we question – just as we were created to. And we realize that there is yet another gift God has given us: the capability to have a personal relationship with our very own Creator. This relationship thrives in keen attention and intentional recognition of others also being images of God. That’s actually pretty radical when you step back and think about it!
But God has even more gifts to offer (as if that wasn’t already enough!) and is chomping at the bit to offer them. God has wisdom of all that we can never fully comprehend – there’s just no way, we’re too limited! But today’s text puts the ball in our court – if we only ask, we can benefit and be guided by God’s all-knowing wisdom. If we only ask, God will gladly continue to offer us gifts.

Have you ever bought a loved one the best gift ever and found it difficult to not just blurt out what it is? You know, those times when you’re so excited about giving something that you’re practically forgetting that you also may be receiving gifts? What would it be like to imagine God this way?
Prayer: Giving God, through your abundant gifts, we can share you’re love and mercy with others. Today we ask, may you share some of your wisdom with us so that we may grow more in love with you and with your creation. Amen.
