Fri Feb 7-Delight In the Way of the Lord

Psalm 37:23-24 (CEB)

23 A person’s steps are made secure by the Lord when they delight in his way.

24 Though they trip up, they won’t be thrown down, because the Lord holds their hand.

Reflection

Today’s passage has me wondering: what does it mean to delight in the way of the Lord? Does this mean attending worship? Does this mean spending time in prayer? Does this mean reading scripture? Does this mean serving others?

I think the answer to each of these questions is “yes,” but I also feel fully delighting in the way of the Lord involves something even deeper, which I am having trouble finding words to express. It might be easier for us to delight in the way of the Lord when we are feeling good and are in a good mood. So how can we still delight in the way of the Lord during the days when we are not at our best? This is something that I am trying to work on. I ask God every day that I may live in a way that pleases God and I ask for eyes to help me see how God is offering me joy and peace every day, even during the days when I may not be at my best.

So, as I go about my day today, I will seek to delight in the way of the Lord and I will find comfort in knowing that if I do this, God’s Word tells me that even though I may trip up, I won’t be thrown down, because God is holding my hand.

For Pondering and Prayer

What does it mean to you to delight in the way of the Lord? Do you find it easier to do this on some days than others? Is it comforting for you to know that even when we “trip up” God is holding our hand?

Prayer: God, may I delight in your way today and may I have peace in knowing that if I trip up, you are holding my hand and won’t let me be thrown down. Thank you, Lord, for your love, grace and peace. Amen.
