13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its saltiness, how will it become salty again? It’s good for nothing except to be thrown away and trampled under people’s feet. 14 You are the light of the world. A city on top of a hill can’t be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they put it on top of a lampstand, and it shines on all who are in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before people, so they can see the good things you do and praise your Father who is in heaven.
Reflection
When I read the scripture passage from today I can’t help but think about and sing to myself
the beloved Sunday School song, “This Little Light of Mine.” Here is a link to a fun video of this
song: “This Little Light Of Mine” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKkbIZtqhyQ) (I promise if you watch this video your spirits will be lifted!)
If you are able to watch this video, I think it does a good job of capturing the message Jesus is
giving us here in verse 16 when he said “In the same way, let your light shine before people, so they can see the good things you do and praise your father who is heaven.” The video starts out with one little light walking through a dark street, however, as the one light continues to sing and praise Jesus, two other lights join in, providing even more light to the street. It’s a simple, yet beautiful message.
We are each called to let our light shine in this dark world through worshiping God and living
out our faith in practical ways. When we do this, we can encourage others to also let their light
shine, providing even more light to this world.
So, let your light shine brightly today and everyday, the world needs it.

For Pondering and Prayer
Where are you being called to let your light shine?
How can you encourage others so they can let their lights shine?
Prayer: Jesus, thank you for shining your light in this dark world and providing us the strength and courage to do the same. Give us the grace, peace, and strength we need today so that we can allow our light to shine brightly. Amen.
