Thu Mar 6-Developing Spiritual Practices

Colossians 3:10(CEB)

10 and put on the new nature, which is renewed in knowledge by conforming to the image of the one who created it.

Reflection

I have been a big fan of A.W, Tozer, who  served as pastor since 1919, beginning 44 years of ministry associated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. He was also a prolificate author, writing 53 books, with “The Pursuit of God” being his best seller.

It is also the topic of this devotional and was written in 1948.

I like to underline and the first thing I underlined was “before a man can seek God, God must first have sought the man.

When I first read that statement, it didn’t really make sense, until I read what Jesus said in John 6:44, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them.”

Now it makes perfect sense. Kind of. It isn’t about me; it’s about Him. So, the first spiritual practice I want to develop is pursuing God. But first I need to realize that God has pursued me. It’s wonderful to know that while I’m pursuing or seeking God, I am already in His hand, and that makes me happy.

Ever since I was a Christian, back in 1979, I have pursued God. And I have been so frustrated because I never felt I knew Him. And all this time I was in the palm of His hand. It makes my pursuit of Him so much better.

For Pondering and Prayer

May I never stop pursuing God. Help me to grow in this spiritual practice.

Prayer: Most Holy God, all this time I was so frustrated in pursuing You. But all this time you held me in the palm of Your hand. I am always yours and You are always mine. Amen.
