I7“ But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
Reflection
Shortly after we were married, I did a very stupid thing, and I was oh so hopeless. This was before I found the Lord. Now that was truly hopelessness.
Have you ever been hopeless? Maybe the better way to put it is how many times have you been hopeless? Hopelessness isn’t a one-time thing. I feel hopeless many times, like when my wife first became ill. There was hopelessness many times during her 11-year illness, that eventually killed her. I’ve known hopelessness many times during our marriage. I’m guessing most of us know it.
Fortunately, I did find God four years into our marriage. I still struggle with hopelessness, but never like before. Even when I feel far from God. I still feel a sense of hope. Why? Because my hope is in You, God.
I’m not a suicidal person, but I might be without God. Instead, I have hope. I remarried my first girlfriend from 1971 about five years after Nancy died. And I’m on my journey to having a relationship with God, as I once had.
I don’t know how anyone can do it without the Lord.
If you are struggling, start reading Psalms. Let me conclude with Psalm 42:5: “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”

For Pondering and Prayer
Just remember, we always have God. Let us develop a great relationship with Him.
Prayer: It’s always helpful to pray the Bible. Psalm 62:5 tells us, “My soul, finds rest in God; my hope comes from him. Let us never forget it. This is where my hope comes from. From Him alone. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
