23 Whatever you do, do it from the heart for the Lord and not for people. 24 You know that you will receive an inheritance as a reward. You serve the Lord Christ.
Reflection
As a NY Giants fan, it pains me to quote ANY Philadelphia Eagle, however, when I read today’s scripture verse, one of the things that came to my mind is Jalen Hurts’ often-cited line of “we have to keep the main thing the main thing.” When Jalen says this, he is talking about not letting adversity get in his and the team’s way of their main purpose on the football field, winning games. Likewise, through this scripture written by the Apostle Paul, I believe God is telling us that we cannot let the adversity we face in this world get in the way of our main purpose, which is to serve the Lord.
During a long and grueling football season it can be easy for a player or team to let setbacks beat them down, make them think they are not good enough, and burn them out. No matter how good they are, every team will face adversity during a season. However, the most successful teams find ways to deal with that adversity, stick together, and stay focused on their main purpose.
Similarly, every one of us will face adversity in life. We will all go through times in which we feel overburdened, inadequate, burned out, or purposeless. It is during these times that we need lean on the support of God, family, friends, and fellow believers and know that we were each created for a purpose. Wherever we are in life and whatever we are doing if we do it “from the heart for the Lord” God can and will use our lives to further God’s kingdom in this world. This is our main thing.

For Pondering and Prayer
What ordinary activities can you do from the heart today for the Lord?
Are you facing a season of life right now in which you feel overburdened, inadequate, burned out, or purposeless? Have you asked God to help you through this time? Are there people in your life you can go and talk to about this?
Prayer: God, as we face the adversity of this world, give us strength, peace, and wisdom so we can stay focused on our main purpose of serving you wholeheartedly wherever we are and whatever we are doing. Amen.
