Romans 10:17(CEB)

17 So, faith comes from listening, but it’s listening by means of Christ’s message.

Reflection

Have you ever wondered where your faith has gone. I’ve been a Christian most of my life, finding Christ in 1979. There have been numerous times when it seems my faith has left me.

I was a Catholic well before 1979, going to parochial schools from first grade to high school graduation. While I sure there are Catholics who are Christians, I wasn’t one of them.

I became a Christian four years into my marriage. It’s a wonder I remained married. But I think God had a better idea. I became a writer for a local newspaper and started a column I called Reflections, and it ran for 25 years. There were times that they wanted to pull Reflections. A couple of times. But God won out. I remember one time the managing editor told me he was getting rid of it. I scrambled to give him reasons why he should keep it. But to no avail.

Finally, I decided to pray. I was in the meeting so It wasn’t a long pray, probably just asking for God’s help to keep the column. But once I prayed, I mean immediately, the editor changed his mind and said he was keeping it.

Faith is fairly simple but hard to define. When I’m doubting, when I’m having a hard time, when it seems my faith has left me, I need to remember what Paul write in Romans 10:17: “So, faith comes from listening, but it’s listening by means of Christ’s message.”

I simply need to pick up a Bible and read what Jesus said.

For Pondering and Prayer

Faith, so easy to get it, so easy to lose it. Let’s just stay in the word.

Prayer: My Savior, I need you every second, every minute, every hour of every day. Please help me to remember I get my faith by listening to Jesus. Amen.
