Wed May 21-Letting Go of the Reins

Proverbs 3:5-6 (CEB)

 5Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
    don’t rely on your own intelligence.
Know him in all your paths,
    and he will keep your ways straight.

Reflection

In our world of constant connectivity, life can often feel cluttered. We work, juggle other responsibilities, navigate relationships, and chase after personal and professional goals all while trying to maintain peace. With a small shift in perspective, we can realize even greater peacefulness: an uncluttered life begins with trust in the Lord.

Placing our trust in the Lord means letting go of the urge we feel to exert control. It’s easy to depend on our own thoughts and abilities, and we often believe that with enough strategizing we can endure by ourselves. In the end, we quickly find that our quest for control overwhelms and burdens us by the pressure of our own expectations.

Think about the last time that you had to make a difficult decision. Did you find yourself endlessly poring over the situation instead of letting go of the reins and letting God’s will be done? I often find myself in this predicament with my work, searching for perfection even when it’s impossible to achieve. In those moments, I find a moment to quietly retreat to God and find confidence to face the challenge with grace and courage.

Simplifying your life doesn’t mean eliminating responsibilities or choices. It simply means inviting God into our everyday actions. While we may not have all the answers, we can find comfort in knowing that God accompanies us through every challenge we face.

For Pondering and Prayer

As we develop this trust, we will find that we no longer require the control that we thought was necessary for our happiness. Lean into God’s unwavering love and accept what we cannot change, trusting that the Lord is the Good Shepherd and will never lead us astray.

May the peace and love of Christ be with you always and forever. I leave you with this prayer:

Prayer: Heavenly Lord, I seek Your presence in every moment of my life. Please be with me and guide my decisions so that Your will may be done here on Earth. I find great comfort in knowing You are beside us, directing our steps and guiding Your Kin-dom to righteousness and love. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
