Psalm 119:105-112 (CEB)

105 Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path.
106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it,
    that I will follow your righteous laws.
107 I have suffered much;
    preserve my life, Lord, according to your word.
108 Accept, Lord, the willing praise of my mouth,
    and teach me your laws.
109 Though I constantly take my life in my hands,
    I will not forget your law.
110 The wicked have set a snare for me,
    but I have not strayed from your precepts.
111 Your statutes are my heritage forever;
    they are the joy of my heart.
112 My heart is set on keeping your decrees
    to the very end.

Reflection

Why do I write devotionals? I hadn’t asked myself that question recently. I used to write devotionals for the Daily Commercial in Leesburg, FL. And I wrote the column for 25 years. After I left the paper, I became a freelance writer and continued the column.

I always thought it was neat to write a spiritual piece in a secular paper and I thought it would be nice if at least one person was saved. But since we started this series on Half-Truths it made me wonder if I’ve spread some half-truths. Over the course of 25 years I’m sure I did, hopefully not too many times. And sometimes people would let me know when I was wrong.

That’s why it’s so important for people to read along with the minister and understand what they are talking about. My guess is that most ministers don’t tell half-truths. I am so grateful for Pastor Joe and his extensive knowledge of the Bible. I feel as a congregation we are truly blessed.

I’m also grateful that we print devotionals five days a week. I do it because I like to do it, but also to try to spread good news, which is what the gospel means. But if you ever catch me in a half truth, please tell me.

For Pondering & Prayer

I grew up not reading the Bible. That changed in my upper 20s. It’s made a big difference in how I live my life and I’m so grateful for it.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I am so grateful that you gave us Your Word and for what a difference it makes in my life and the life of my family. Lord, help me to be true to it every day. Amen.
