7 Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound.
8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.
Reflection
During the election I kept looking at the wrong things. Like the scripture says in verse 7, “grain and new wine.” Drop back to verse 6. “Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?”
Prosperity is nice but is that what we are all about?
We are so much more then prosperity. We are so much more then grain and fine wine.
Let me ask this question, would you rather have prosperity or safety? Look at the last verse, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
Which candidate can guarantee peace and safety? They may try to provide safety and peace, but they can’t guarantee it.
Only one person can do that.
During the election I’m sure many prayed for their candidate to win. But only the Lord can give us peace and safety. I hope that will be my prayer every day, until the next election—and beyond.

For Pondering and Prayer
Lord, let us remember the big things in life. It’s not prosperity or grain or wine. It’s peace and safety. Let us ask that from our God.
Prayer: Lord, let me ask of you two things. Give use peace and safety. Then we can worry about
prosperity and grain and wine. Amen.
