Mon Nov 11-Choosing Faith

Hebrews 11:1 (CEB)

Faith is the reality of what we hope for, the proof of what we don’t see.

Reflection

Some things that I continue to try and work on in my life are having patience, being present and enjoying the everyday moments of life, not dwelling on mistakes from the past, and trying not to worry about how things will turn out in the future. In short, I am continually trying to strengthen my faith. I believe that this will be a life-long process, and something I must choose to work on every day. At times, I wish that having rock-solid faith is something that would be easy, that I wouldn’t have to work on it, but I have also come to understand this is not the reality of our existence in this world. Choosing to trust and have faith in God, day by day, is the foundation of living a meaningful, joyful, and peaceful life in this world.

In looking at different translations of today’s passage, I found the interpretation from The Message helpful. It states, “the fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living.”

Life is not easy; this world can be chaotic and unsettling.  There are always and will always be things that we pray for and work to change.  Maybe we will witness this change or maybe we will just have to choose to have faith that even though we can’t see or understand it, God is working things out. So let us trust in God and choose faith today and may that give us the meaning, joy, and peace we need.

For Pondering and Prayer

When strengthens your faith? What challenges your faith? What are you presently praying for and working to change?

Prayer: Faithful God, although we may not always be able to see or understand how you are at work in this world, may we choose to have faith today.  Give us the clarity and peace of mind we need to know that our faith and trust in you is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. Amen.
