Isaiah 61:10-62:2 (CEB)

10 I surely rejoice in the Lord;
my heart is joyful because of my God,
because he has clothed me with clothes of victory,
wrapped me in a robe of righteousness
like a bridegroom in a priestly crown,
and like a bride adorned in jewelry.
11 As the earth puts out its growth,
and as a garden grows its seeds,
so the Lord God will grow righteousness and praise before all the nations.

62 For Zion’s sake I won’t keep silent,
and for Jerusalem’s sake I won’t sit still
until her righteousness shines out like a light,
and her salvation blazes like a torch.
Nations will see your righteousness,
    all kings your glory.
You will be called by a new name,
which the Lord’s own mouth will determine.

Reflection

The light was always meant to shine forth. God provides us with every good thing – not simply for our enjoyment or glory, but in order to bless others, so that the whole world may see what God has done.

Clothes of victory, royal robes, crowns and jewelry….God’s gifts are abundant. Even in the midst of difficulty, our lives are adorned with so many good things: faith, relationships, talents, work and ministry.

But none of these things is meant just for us. There is no such thing as a private, personal blessing. What we’ve been given should always have a spillover effect to bless the lives of others. So don’t keep silent – let the light shine out so that others can see God’s grace in you!

For Pondering & Prayer

Are there blessings God has given you that you’ve been reluctant to share – maybe out of being fearful or nervous about sharing them? As you approach the New Year, are you open to new ways of radiating the light of Christ out into the world? Pray for the Spirit’s guidance.

Prayer: Holy and most generous God, we know that this is a season of difficulty for so many of us. Even in the midst of challenges, help us to recognize the abundance of blessings we have received. Call on us once again to let your light shine forth through our lives, and ease our fears as we do your will. Amen.
