Didja’ ever have one of those days? I surely have! When worry after worry seems to get piled on you… When one thing after another goes wrong… When one thing after another is added to the ‘to do” list… When you go to bed and cannot fall asleep because of things swirling through your brain… When those worries enter your dreams, and you cannot escape them even when you finally get to sleep.
In the end it’s about having faith in your actions and trusting that good things will come. The bad guy and his cronies always fail, and the hero gets to ride away into the sunset.
“I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.”
All Things Have A Purpose. Proverbs assumes some connection between people’s character or behavior and the outcomes they experience.
Job’s story is one of devastating financial and personal loss, of disease and suffering, betrayal and marital discord, anger and finally transformation. Job’s life was broken and poured out in front of him, and in his despair and suffering he asks God that eternal question we all come to ask, “Why me?”
The Bible teaches a fundamental principle that we all know to be true: actions have consequences. The things we do and say matter.
Our scripture talks about how we should all be servants – helping others in whatever we do. Sometimes we are in charge of what’s happening – we are hosting an event, we are leading a meeting, we are the CEO, and people look to us for direction. That doesn’t mean we can’t be helping others as we do this.
What is my purpose? How am I being led by the Holy Spirit? I am not exactly sure when I wrote those questions, I didn’t date them, but as I reflect on them now, I know they apply to me as much today as the day that I wrote them, whenever that was.
Paul’s message concerns the distribution of spiritual, God-given gifts to everyone. EVERYONE! Not just those who believe in God but every living, breathing child of God. We have unique spiritual gifts to be used in whatever way is beneficial to the common good. The “common good” includes EVERYONE too!
Something that I find marvelous is how a good team will balance each other out with a diverse set of skills. Literally any example of a group working together…
